Wilson Arch
Wilson Arch

Wilson Arch is located about an hour south of Moab, Utah. It is one of the most accessible arches in the area. The parking lot is only a short distance from it. the climb is easy and then one can clamber all around it, This was shot with multiple images due to the intensity of [...]

The Old Barn, Shot Toward the Sun
The Old Barn, Shot Toward the Sun

This amazing cloud hung over the mountain at sunrise. It sprayed the valley with light for very short periods of time. A very easy time to gawk and forget about shooting images.

The Spotlight Moves
The Spotlight Moves

Light never ceases to amaze me. It travels across a monochrome environment and brings color and texture in unexpected places. It can make a scruffy twig look like a piece of art.

A Little Light
A Little Light

I recently returned from a trip to northern Arizona and southern Utah. This was a third trip with some good friends. This image was shot about 25 miles east of Boulder, Utah. A perfect day to shoot: the light changed constantly. This is a composite of 2 exposures; the light was too harsh for one.

From the Bridge
From the Bridge

I am in love with the Trump Tower. It dominates the downtown and is kaleidoscopic in the manner available light is reflected off of it.

Fountain in Rose Garden
Fountain in Rose Garden

A composite of three images.

The Dark Before Dawn
The Dark Before Dawn

Boy, was this fun to play with! It was shot yesterday about 4:40 am. It started as a simple beauty shot, I then added 5 more exposures and turned it into an HDR. An hour later, I ended up with this……it does not look like it is going to be a good day in Chicago.

Wrapped in Clouds
Wrapped in Clouds

This image is a vertical pano shot from Wacker Drive at about 5:45 am. It consists of 3 images shot with a polarizing filter. I had to wait a LONG time for the transmission mast to clear the clouds.

Blue, Black and Gold
Blue, Black and Gold

This is another HDR shot where 5 images were combined into one. The stillness of the air was wonderful! This was the 3rd week that I had gotten up at 3:30 to get down town in time.

Pink and Blue
Pink and Blue

The sky was wonderful, there was a little fog and I was a happy guy!

Dawn in Monument Valley
Dawn in Monument Valley

Our guide, Tom, picked us up at 6-an-a-little-am, this was the second set-up after the Totems. The sense of distance was amazing.

Traffic at The Wave
Traffic at The Wave

There are only 20 people allowed at this location per day. As you can see, some of the popular vantage points fill up quickly.

Wave 12
Wave 12

Trying to capture The Wave is like shooting the Grand Canyon. I need to shoot small pieces so I can digest and appreciate. The last time we were there we got snowed out after about 20 minutes of shooting.

Fins and Hoodoos
Fins and Hoodoos

Another image from Coyote Buttes. The orientation is to the north. This is the only area where there are fins, hoodoos and sliprock in one place. The fins range up to 14-16 inches high and are extremely fragile. I felt like I was walking around God’s fine china shop.

Gargoyle
Gargoyle

This image was shot at the southern end of the formation, up pretty high. The sky coloration is caused by the warming polarizer filter. If you look real hard at the peak in the distance, it is probably about 20-30 miles west of Bryce Canyon.

Orchid 4
Orchid 4

I was out at a retailer that specializes in orchids, Hausermann’s, out in villa park. The light was very flat but the sun peeked in every now and the. This image makes it because of the blue background.

Winter Beach
Winter Beach

I am glad I had a tripod for this image. It was about 18 degrees and I had been waiting for about 45 minutes…..I was shaking. This is a beach on Lake Michigan, about 12 minutes from home.

About Me
I am as passionate about the post processing as I am about the composition. The image is in my heart, not in the lens,
