I am cheating on this one. There were all these tourist around me throwing coins in the water and there was heavy rippling on the water. I replaced the water part of the image with the sky image flipped. It took a lot of work but it turned out pretty well.

We found this pond and spent a hour or so shooting it. The light changed in intensity constantly and the fog burned off the water. Places that we shot 20 minutes earlier were now brand new.

Sunshine
Sunshine

This image was shot yesterday at the Morton Arboretum, outside of Chicago. The leaf color was not excellent but I was playing around with back lighting through the leaves and caught this with HDR.

From the Bridge
From the Bridge

I am in love with the Trump Tower. It dominates the downtown and is kaleidoscopic in the manner available light is reflected off of it.

The Sentry
The Sentry

The Hancock building totally serves as a visual anchor to any view of Chicago from the north. This image was shot at about an hour before daybreak. There was a light fog that softens the focus.

A composite of three images.

Another Sunrise at the Garden
Another Sunrise at the Garden

I decided to try this in HDR, I did not like the blotchy results. I ended up combining the HDR output with a filtered version of one of the originals. The effect is much more pleasing.

The Dark Before Dawn
The Dark Before Dawn

Boy, was this fun to play with! It was shot yesterday about 4:40 am. It started as a simple beauty shot, I then added 5 more exposures and turned it into an HDR. An hour later, I ended up with this……it does not look like it is going to be a good day in Chicago.

Blue, Black and Gold
Blue, Black and Gold

This is another HDR shot where 5 images were combined into one. The stillness of the air was wonderful! This was the 3rd week that I had gotten up at 3:30 to get down town in time.

5am in Chicago
5am in Chicago

I shot this in HDR with 6 exposures. The water was calm and the stars were bright.

Pink and Blue
Pink and Blue

The sky was wonderful, there was a little fog and I was a happy guy!

Green Mushrooms

Last weekend I shot at the Botanic Garden for 3 days in a row. This is another HDR rendition. I am finally finding that Photomatix is becoming my friend.

Temple at Dawn
Temple at Dawn

There are only three of these temples in the world. One is located in Wilmette. It looks fake because of all the detailed symmetry.

Waterscape 1
Waterscape 1

This was shot after the B&W version, no special post processing; had to straighten the horizon, though.

Waterscape 2
Waterscape 2

This version was shot as overexposed and then I used a HiPass filter and converted to black and white.

Jenny Lake
Jenny Lake

I went back to some old color images to process this one, The highlight in the water, leading the eye to the mountains is much better in B&W,

Winter Beach
Winter Beach

This image of Lake Michigan was sot a few miles from my house. It is very hard to get good images in the winter due to the ice accumulation on the shore.

Contemplation No. 11
Contemplation No. 11

This a long exposure! I used a variable density ND filter to get the time I needed. I will add the color version later.

Winter Beach

I am glad I had a tripod for this image. It was about 18 degrees and I had been waiting for about 45 minutes…..I was shaking. This is a beach on Lake Michigan, about 12 minutes from home.

About Me
I am as passionate about the post processing as I am about the composition. The image is in my heart, not in the lens,
